"I believe every Minnesotan should have access to affordable healthcare and I will work for you to make this a reality." |
Every Minnesotan deserves the right to access affordable healthcare. With my background and experience in the human services and healthcare I will work to make affordable healthcare a reality for every Minnesotan.
The oldest members of the baby boomer generation reach retirement age in 2008. Our healthcare system is grossly under prepared to handle our aging population. We must work to improve our healthcare system so that our seniors can access prescription drugs at reasonable prices and live healthy lives. Our most vulnerable citizens need our support and I will work to make that happen.
The cost of healthcare for small businesses in Minnesota is of serious concern. As a small business owner I have personally watched my company’s health premiums rise every year while we have had fewer claims in comparison to other companies our size. I support allowing businesses to pool resources so that they can offer their employees insurance policies with premiums at a lower cost than would otherwise be available to them. The State of Minnesota should open its Minnesota Care program and State insurance plans to allow small businesses to buy in to the plans.
People left uninsured end up costing the healthcare system more. Often these individuals wait until they are seriously ill or arrive at the emergency room because they were not treated early enough. If we are more proactive with healthcare and treat people early we hold down the costs of healthcare in the State.
While my educational background is in business, I have worked in the human services and healthcare industry for 12 years. I am running for House of Representatives because every Minnesotan should have access to affordable healthcare and I will work for you to make this a reality.
