"We need a tax policy that is honest, fair and transparent." |
The economy is nearing a recession; the sub-prime markets have hurt it and many Minnesotans. Small businesses and entrepreneurs can lead the way to a better economy if they are provided the opportunity and tax incentives to do so. We must support entrepreneurship and engage business owners to support their needs. Doing this will stimulate the economy and move the economy in the right direction.
Every Minnesotan deserves the opportunity to own a home. However, in recent years many Minnesotans have been taken advantage of by unfair and improper lending that has cost many of them their savings and their homes to foreclosure. It is imperative that we take action to protect our citizens from predatory lenders and provide them with real opportunities for home ownership.
Property taxes have risen substantially over the last several years. At a time when the housing market is declining many residents are feeling the impact of this increases directly, including many seniors may be on a fixed income. Minnesota must restore money cut from local government aid to reduce the burden on local governments who have been forced to raise property taxes.
We must protect our workers from unnecessarily losing their jobs when corporations outsource to foreign countries. We must also provide training and education to dislocated workers to help them reestablish themselves in the workforce.
We need a tax policy that is honest, fair and transparent. Minnesota’s tax policy should not include gimmicks of shifting costs between different levels of government. Shifting costs and calling them “fees” instead of a tax is untruthful to the people and does not reflect an honest and transparent tax policy.
I am running for the House of Representatives because I want to work to make sure that everyone pays their fair share of taxes and we do not overtax anyone.
